Eleven minutes full novel5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() The author describes an innocent girl, Maria, who imagines a number of fantasy relationships with boys who go to school with her. The version of the book being used for this guide is the HarperOne 2021 English language edition. The author uses the term “prostitute” this guide replaces that term when not in quotes with “sex worker.” While it contains three erotically described sexual encounters, the book does not include vulgar language or epithets. The book contains frank discussions of the institution and history of sex work. Her plans are interrupted by Ralf Hart, a famous artist whom she tries desperately not to love. Maria hardens her heart against feeling any affection for her clients and saves her money for her return to Brazil. The narrative concerns the maturing of a beautiful, highly intelligent young Brazilian woman, Maria, who stumbles onto the opportunity to travel to Switzerland as a dancer but ends up as well-paid sex worker. Hearing the stories of sex workers in Switzerland and recognizing touchstones in his own journey of understanding sexuality helped the author determine the course of the narrative and the truths he wanted the novel to express. Eleven Minutes was a long-term project for Coelho, who experienced a number of serendipitous events propelling him into writing a book about sex workers. When first released in 2003, Eleven Minutes by the Brazilian author Paulo Coelho was the year’s number one international bestselling book, far outpacing the number two bestseller, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. ![]()

Getting things done book review5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The book is definitely written with a new overall tone. Like any positive life-changing thing, I have always thought “I wish I had found GTD sooner in life, it really would have helped with high school and college.” The idea of a book for young adults was mentioned years ago on some podcast interview that David Allen had done, so when it was officially announced this spring, Amazon got more than a few pre-orders from me. While I am not a teen, there is one in my household who could use a few productivity tips, so I wanted to preview the book so we could discuss together. I have read all of David Allen’s books multiple times, including his re-release of the original Getting Things Done, and was excited when GTD for Teens was announced. ![]() I originally bought the book in 2004, and while it took me years to master, it has been a pillar in my life ever since. It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, listens to the podcast, or has read my many blog posts, that I am a big fan and longtime follower of the Getting Things Done ® (GTD ®) productivity methodology. ![]() |
